Horror movies are one of the most profitable at the box office. Generally, they have a fairly economical budget that, however, ends up conquering all kinds of audiences, generating great income that allows for more movies of this style. However, there is one movie that, last year, exceeded the genre’s expectations.
Five Nights at Freddy’s, the adaptation of the popular animatronic horror video game, grossed an impressive sum of 297 million dollars (yes, almost 300) from a base budget of 20, achieving historical records in all countries. Although the reviews were mixed, it didn’t matter much: it was an unprecedented success that will obviously have a sequel. And now we can finally watch the movie on streaming.

A horror movie for (almost) all audiences
Five Nights at Freddy’s has just premiered on the SkyShowtime platform, which also features gems like Twin Peaks, Oppenheimer, and The Offer. The movie’s story follows a character named Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson), who accepts a job as a night security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a pizza restaurant that also functions as a family entertainment center with animatronics.
The story begins when Mike discovers that the animatronics in the restaurant come to life and become aggressive at night. These robots, originally created to entertain children during the day, start roaming the establishment with harmful intentions. Mike has to survive his work shift, from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., by using security cameras to monitor the animatronics’ movements and closing doors to protect himself. However, he must also be careful with his limited energy consumption.

Undoubtedly, thanks to movies like this, SkyShowtime is emerging as a more than plausible alternative to the most popular VOD services. With its collection of Paramount classics and original fictions, it is clear that it is on the right track to compete against Netflix and company.
